We Deliver Training

HW Catering is passionate about providing refugees and people seeking asylum with opportunities that enable their self-determination, independence and participation in the community. Using an evidence-based model proven to achieve social impact, its employment opportunities equip our participating clients with the skills, confidence and qualifications to secure their future employment.

We offer three different employment pathways, each with its own training platform.

Firstly, we provide traineeships to aspiring chefs. This includes obtaining a Food Health & Safety Certificate, with the option to then complete a Certificate III in Hospitality at TAFE, while being employed in our kitchen and mentored by our Head Chef. PAYCE Foundation generously facilitates the academic aspect of our program’s hospitality studies, in partnership with House of Welcome.

Our second employment pathway is front of house. These participants may also be learning to cook, but they will specialise in providing food service to customers who require this option at events and functions. They learn to serve food safely and professionally, turning any event into a special occasion.

Trainees who enjoy driving can participate in our third employment pathway – delivery. These trainees undertake customer service and English language courses (if required), so they can confidently deliver food and answer customer questions.

By choosing HW Catering, you are helping create employment pathways to refugees and people seeking asylum, while supporting the broader work of the House of Welcome, which provides assistance to over 3000 members of the community each year.

We Connect Through Food

Our menu offers diverse flavours inspired by the cultures of our trainee chefs, who develop its items and dishes in collaboration with our Head Chef. Enjoy finger foods and share platters while you mingle or chat, or gather around the table over our soups, hot bowls and salads. We also provide sandwiches, wraps and business lunch packages that are perfect for meetings or conferences. And of course, we offer an array of desserts to end your meal on a sweet note.

Our catering menu is halal, and includes vegetarian and vegan dishes, as well as catering for food intolerances. We invite you to explore our offerings or contact us today, so we can help you design the perfect menu for your next function or event.

We Journey Together

Aliyeh and Menani.jpg

Meet two of our graduates: Aliyeh and Menani. They started volunteering for community lunches at House of Welcome in late 2018. Their love of food had them joining HW Catering and commencing their training to become food service industry professionals.

Through their traineeships, Aliyeh and Menani completed a Food & Safety Supervisor’s Certificate, after which they honed their practical skills training in our catering kitchen at Granville. They learnt all aspects of the industry, including shopping for ingredients, preparing food, cooking, time management, delivering and providing food service. They learnt how to cook dishes from diverse cultural backgrounds outside their own, ranging from Afghani, Pakistani and Indian, to Arabic food. Their confidence grew as they gained new skills, each step building a path leading to a career in food and catering.

With your help, we can continue to grow our social enterprise and offer more traineeships for our clients. Recommend HW Catering as a supplier of choice at your place of work, or even support a trainee with your family, friends or colleagues!
